TGIF!

HOORAY for Friday!! To finish off the week the kids got to spend their "school bucks" at the school store. But - not until today's work was done :)

Today Emma worked on pasting and tracing. She also put shape puzzles together that I printed out from education.com

In addition to his worksheets today, Chandler worked on sorting out Super Sweet Parts of Speech, a FREE printable that I found here at TeachersPayTeachers!

In Science this week we are studying weather and clouds. Our story for today was Carl's Nose by Karen Lee Schmidt.

Next, we played weather bingo. I gave the kids cards with pictures of weather events on them. If I called a card that they had they flipped it over. The first one to have all their cards flipped was the winner. I found these cards (along with a bunch of other science card games) at Mardel for around $7. You can check it out here :)

To continue our study on clouds we reviewed the different types of clouds on our bulletin board display. We also added today's weather to our graph.

We also took cotton balls and made the three different types of clouds. For cumulus we left them as they were and glued them to the paper. For cirrus clouds we pulled the cotton balls apart and glued them on with a little curl to them. For stratus we pulled long pieces of the cotton ball out and glued it on the page before adding some black and gray water paint to them.

After science we moved on to social studies. Right now we are covering American symbols so I introduced this cute set that I found FREE at TeachersPayTeachers.com. Today we went over the different symbols and read part of O, Say Can You See?

Next up, Chandler searched the word AMERICA for new words (this was part of the set from TPT)

We talked about colors in art today. We went over the primary colors and how you mix them to make the secondary colors. We also talked about the rainbow and my old friend Roy G. Biv, then we painted our own rainbows.

That's it for today, now we're headed to meet up with some friends for a back to school ice cream party!
