Our experiment today reminds us that when clouds get too heavy with water it rains.
Step 1: We re-used our plastic cups from the other day and filled them with water.
Step 2: I squirted a good amount of shaving cream on the water (P.S. I picked some up from the Dollar Tree – super cheap)
Step 3: The kids squirted food coloring into the “cloud” of shaving cream.
Step 4: We watched as our “rain” came down from our clouds!
We got crafty with the water cycle today! I found a picture of this craft online and tried to duplicate it – it isn’t without flaws, but the kids enjoyed it and it reinforced the concept of the water cycle.
Here’s what we used:
- Cotton balls
- Construction paper in white, blue, light blue, and yellow
- String or ribbon
- Glue
- Hole punch
- Stapler
First we glued “clouds” (cotton balls) to white strips of construction paper.
Next, we glued little rain drops to our light blue strips of construction paper. We did 2 strips with blue drops and 3 strips with white drops.
While the strips were drying the kids drew waves with a white crayon on a thick strip of blue construction paper. After the strips were dry we glued one end to the white strip of clouds and the other end to the blue strip of water.
We reviewed the water cycle process and glued labels on before hanging them up. Here is a look at the final product.
Today we continued with adding double digits and reviewed skip counting by two and ten. We made a game of it by stacking the right ice cream scoops on the cone!
In our language studies today we did a little review of the word family –at. I made up these sheets and laminated them for re-use.
If you would like to you can download the worksheets I made below.
That’s all for today!
